Name: Ike Door: Door pass. He's a submissive there. Canon: Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Canon Point: Post-game, pre-Radiant Dawn Age: 18 Appearance: 1 History: 1 & 2 Personality: 🡅 Loyal Ike has grown up seeing loyalty, camaraderie, and teamwork his entire life. When his father was murdered, he knew the other mercenaries were counting on him. Ike is shown to personally care about all the mercenaries in his group. He doesn't just check up on them to see how they are physically doing, but he also their state of mind. He has a genuine and sincere interest in seeing those close to him thrive and do well. He wants to do whatever he can do to help those who put their trust in him. Examples of his loyalty can be found in several of his support conversations and throughout Ike's actions in the game. His conversation with Titania shows how thankful and appreciative he is, hoping they can both support each other in the future. His conversation with Soren shows how even after finding out Soren is a branded, he sticks by him. Him learning about Soren being a branded doesn't change his opinion of his friend at all and they stick together years to come. In his support with Elincia, he states that she is not alone as not only an ally, but as a person. He promised her do whatever he could to help Elincia's vision for the future even if it meant his death. This would be later tested, and Ike does keep his promise in the plot of Radiant Dawn. When his sister and Rolf are kidnapped, he immediately goes to rescue them without a second thought. 🡅 Honest Ike is honest and straight forward with his words. Sometimes joke or statements go over his head because he doesn't grasp why someone wouldn't just be honest and tell it like it is. Some may find his words and approach blunt at times, but he's not overly tactless. He just thinks honest is the best way to work and approach others. He's willing to admit when he makes mistakes, share his true feelings, ask those he trusts when he needs help, and shares his weaknesses. Ike speaks from the heart, hoping others are honest with him, too. His honesty also stems from the fact he doesn't want to overly complicate speaking and communicating with others. He does what he says and says how he feels without hesitation and regard to someone's social status or who they are if he feels something needs to be said. In his support conversation with Oscar, he's honest with him about his troubles and worries regarding battle tactics and hopes Oscar is patient with him as he's learning to lead them. With Titania, he's honest and humble when it comes to telling her how he feels about her supporting not only him, but his father and sister for as long as he can remember. While learning about Soren's past as a branded, Ike is honest with Soren instead of simply pitying him. He says how he honestly feels in order to show Soren he will continue to support him. 🡅 Conviction Ike's moral compass is his guiding point and his drive. When he sees something is unfair and unjust, he doesn't just ignore it. He'll state that it's unfair and usually want to do something about it. He doesn't like it when people are prejudice against others or when he thinks someone in power is misusing their power/position. He'll call out people who are prejudice throughout the game and show that he's displeased with those he considers bigoted. When he believes in a person, especially a friend or trusted ally, he'll put his own reputation, honor, and life on the line for them. He wants to genuinely do what is right and encourages others to speak from their heart and be honest (even when it's not the most polite or traditional way to do things). To him, titles are meaningless and it is actions and words of a person who define who they are. When Ike talks to his sister after witnessing villagers attack his laguz allies, he states he doesn't understand why people fear those who are different and it frustrates and confuses him. He also warns Jill she is on thin ice for her anti-laguz words and sentiments and she is not allowed to use the word "sub-human" while traveling with them. While Ike is supporting Elincia's claim to Crimean throne to Empress Sanaki, Ike fully supports her and backs her claim without hesitation. After witnessing what he thinks is political games and garbage in an attempt humiliate her by Sanaki during this process, he's furious and calls her out on her antics and defends Elincia. His relationship with Sanaki does get better, as he encourages her to "speak from the heart" when Sanaki apologizes to the Heron clan for the destruction of the Serenes Forest and the massacre/genocide of their people. He also does go along with being used in a political pawn game by Sanaki in order to help the slave trade of laguz. 🡇 Too trusting This ties into Ike's view of honesty and his inexperience. Ike usually takes things at face value and just accepts for the most part that a person is telling the truth (unless they're incredible shady and obvious). This has led to some comical moments and moments that leave him open to those who are deceitful and are not working in his best interest. While nowhere near stupid, and quite gullible, Ike's sense of honesty and being too trusting sometimes clouds him into seeing the ill-intentions of others or understanding complicated political and social situations. That doesn't mean he's completely clueless and cannot spot someone lying or a fishy story, but he doesn't overly guard himself. Throughout the game, he'll speak truthfully without hesitation with people he's just met even when they are suspicious or clearly hiding something else from him; he doesn't think how someone could use such information against him. Usually it's Soren or Titania that prevent his overly trusting nature from doing any lasting damage. Ike's overly trusting side comes out several times with Ranulf. With their first encounter, Ike actually calls Ranulf sub-human. He had no idea it is considered an offensive word, only knowing that word as a way to address the laguz. In return, Ike is corrected by Ranulf again when it comes to laguz using the word human (Ranulf actually warns him to watch out for laguz who call Ike human). In support conversations, Ike misses Ranulf's sarcasm about training, first believing that Ranulf actually enjoys it instead of the exact opposite. Further in the conversation, Ike flat out states he trusts Ranulf. In turn, Ranulf calls him dumb for saying such a thing so carelessly due to the fact laguz and beorc have poor relations with each other. When questioning Sephiran's story about being a monk and how he ended up in such circumstances during a time of war, he shows some doubt but doesn't push Sephiran further. In fact, even after doubting his story, when Sephiran asks him a follow-up question, Ike shows him that he clearly isn't some powerful and confident leader he should present himself as; Sephiran easily could have been a spy or working against Ike's interests. Later Ike admits to Ranulf that he struggles with being able to tell friends from foes and that he needs to improve on this. Because he can be too trustful, Ike ends up having a spy join him. Nasir ends up betraying Ike as he stole the Lehran Medallion from Ike's sister and gave it to Ashnard (AKA the big bad of the game). Soren was highly suspicious of Nasir very early on, and Ranulf thought he was a spy for Gallia. Nasir reveals why he betrayed Ike, but it still stands that Ike's overly trusting nature to those who he sees as good allowed a spy into his forces. In the game, there's even an option to fully recruit Nasir into the army and Ike still trusts him even after his earlier betrayal. 🡇 Inexperienced Ike was barely an official member of the Greil Mercenaries when his father died. Taking up the mantle of his father's position as the leader of a well seasoned mercenary group proved extremely difficult to Ike even if others have commented towards his natural and innate ability to lead. Ike is also inexperienced dealing with people on a professional and social level. His father commented on his bad habit of speaking too bluntly/rudely/casually during more professional and diplomatic situations. While he has an innate talent of being a leader and genuinely does care about every member under him, his growth as a leader and as a person is part of the story of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. Sometimes his lack of knowledge in situations and how he reacted could have been catastrophic in some cases. He desires change, but he still is too rough around the edges and blunt to execute his plans accordingly. It's Soren and Titania that are the ones that really shape what he wants to happen into reality. The game repeatedly points out Ike's inexperience is one of his major flaws, and by the end of the game, he's on the right track on becoming a powerful leader (this is evident in Radiant Dawn, Path of Radiance's sequel). His inexperience is usually the root of his other negative traits and character flaw. He's still trying to figure out who he is as a commander/leader and as a person (unbeknownst to him). After his father died, he felt unsure of his abilities and two veteran mercenaries left the group citing Ike's incompetence, inexperience, and agenda (later they can possibly rejoin). When defending Elincia in front of Empress Sanaki, he was extremely heated and rude towards her. This could have gone horribly even though he was doing what he thought was right. Sanaki could have ordered his death and Ike's words could have cost Elincia's claim to the throne and Begnion's support of Crimea. Ike didn't know about how Sanaki is seen as a living god/apostle (and honestly, he doesn't even care). Ike admits to heavily depending on both Soren and Titania throughout the entire game due to his inexperience leading and managing mercenaries (and later an army). While Ike is the face of the Greil Mercenaries and eventually the Crimean Liberation Army, his closest allies are the ones who help patch up his inexperience. 🡇 Blunt & lacking social grace While honest with his words, maybe he's a little too honest and blunt at times. He's not the most tactful, but his sincerity and conviction usually help patch that up (or just straight up luck). He does have genuine moments when he can compliment and acknowledge someone's help, so he isn't completely socially dense and rude. The issue arises when talking to those in higher rank and power. Pretty much every time Ike speaks to royalty, other characters comment on him being too casual and forward. He doesn't really "get" or understand bureaucracy and its traditions and just hammers his way through. He's not into the finer points of politeness or social etiquette as he believes being honest is more important than appeasing someone or being polite. There are some comical moments when Ike is unable to fight or talk himself out of something he ends up running away. After being shipwrecked on Goldoa's reef, Ike is saved by the dragon laguz's only for him to make immediate demands. The prince is taken aback, but he does help. Ike doesn't even give his name, but at least he thanks him. When Ike is cornered my Aimee, he asks for Soren to help and hides, producing this gem of a scene. As previously mention, his scene where he insults Sanaki may show his conviction, but it also shows his regard to proper social decorum when talking to an empress. 🡇 Rash & Not dealing with/showing his emotions well When it comes to his emotions, Ike usually looks composed and tries his best to be levelheaded. Yet he does have some triggering points that take him from a cool cucumber to a raging inferno in .5 seconds. He can be rash when he is upset, which usually puts himself and others around him in danger. In some cases, it puts himself and his allies in danger (political and mortal). Then there times where he appears emotionally disconnected to the point other characters assume he's either being arrogant or overly confident. He does feel emotions, but he doesn't always know how to show or deal with his feelings. After his sister and Rolf were kidnapped, instead of obeying orders from his father, Ike's rashness lead him to do a reckless and dangerous rescue. He was able to rescue them, but Ike's father scolded him for his behavior and letting his emotions get the best of him. When Ike sees his father fighting the Black Knight, instead of running away, Ike charges at the Black Knight. While Ike's father was doomed to the lose the duel and die, Ike's rashness made the situation far messier. When his father died, while upset, Ike never really emotionally processed the loss of his father. This lack of proper grieving for his father drives him towards revenge and anger against the Black Knight who killed his father. This goes against his father's wish of wanting Ike to not take revenge and just live peacefully in Gallia. His attitude towards the Black Knight can be described as rash, fueled by anger and revenge. It even endangers his own life as he knows the Black Knight could kill him in one to one combat. Despite this, Ike fights the Black Knight three times (and the third time is the lucky charm). Ike's anger towards Sanaki could have killed him and endangered Crimea's political situation when Ike defended Elincia. While drunk, Shinon vents at Ike. Shinon thinks Ike is arrogant and overly confident after rejoining Ike's forces. Shinon says it upset him that Ike "gets everything" and "steals things away" even though he doesn't appear interested in it. Ike is often misread by people who don't know him well or are biased against him. Several enemy generals and characters accuse Ike of being arrogant or confident because he doesn't show his feelings or emotions openly. Soren is one of the few people who can tell how Ike is feeling. 🡇 Black and white thinking Ike can think in terms of black and white too at times. He doesn't really see the grey aspects of a situation and thinks there is a good thing to do or a bad thing to do. This probably is due to his sense honesty and his convictions. Sometimes when he sees something as "bad", he doesn't take the time to understand the complexities of a situation or the grey area. Usually it's Soren or Titania who help him break out of that way of thinking, expanding this view point. It could be said his inexperience as a leader and commander has lead him to think like this. It's shown in Radiant Dawn, set three years later, he's become better seeing complexities in situations. When Mist tries to explain why some beorc (humans) are prejudice to the laguz and fear them, he's rather dismissive and thinks being fearful of someone different is stupid. When explained the history of slavery in Tellius, Ike is told it was the laguz who enslaved the beorc before the beorc enslaved the laguz. His reaction to this information was again dismissive. He stated that past actions don't justify current actions. When Jill asks to stay with his group for the time being, he's hostile towards her for her anti-laguz beliefs and sentiments even though she helped rescue Elincia and his mercenaries. After fighting alongside Ike more, she asks to keep traveling with his forces. She tries to explain how she grew up and it's hard to unlearn all the anti-laguz sentiment that's ingrained within her . Still, Ike doesn't fully embrace her as a member of his army until Jill's father dies in battle, Ike's army the one defeating her father's. It's then he is able to see and connect with her, both of them losing their father. It's actually possible for Jill to defect from Ike's army and rejoin her father's troops in the game. In order to have her come back to Ike's army, it's not Ike who convinces her, but his sister. This shows how his hostile attitude towards Jill due this black and white thinking prevented him from truly fostering a loyal commander-soldier relationship. Ike's feelings and thoughts about politics, nobles, and bureaucracy suffer because of his black and white thinking. He thinks Sanaki is using him as a political toy at first, but Soren and Titania later help him realize Sanaki was helping him uncover the illegal laguz slave trade. He also never really tries to understand Begnion's political system and how things work because of he has already thought of them as bad. Powers and Abilities: Ike is a beorc (beorc = human in the game's lore) that doesn't have any divine powers/abilities at the moment, but he does have some skills regarding fighting. Swords: Ike is a skilled swordsman who is able to wield the mythical Ragnell sword. He's been trained by his father, a legendary swordsman himself, in how to wield a sword. It's his primary weapon, and while he's still developing his skills, he's one the strongest playable sword unit in the game. His signature sword move is the Aether skill which combines the Luna and Sol skills. Mercenary skills/leadership: While Ike is still developing his skills for being a leader, he has an innate talent to lead and to fight. He has some insight into battle tactics, but his natural instincts as a leader who is loyal and genuinely cares shows on the battlefield. He treats everyone a part of the Greil Mercenaries as equals, supporting them in their personal and physical endeavors. Inventory: ![]() ![]() ![]() Samples: 1,2, 3, 4 |
